At the beginning of the year, gyms like Fitness19 see an increase in membership as people try to honor their New Years’ Resolution to get more fit or get healthier. And by this time in the year is when people start dropping out of the program and giving up. Our goal is to keep you motivated so that all the hard work you did so far doesn’t go to waste. Here are the reasons why you have been doing well and should keep moving forward with your fitness routine.
Recover from Illness Quicker
Sometimes we just don’t feel well. It could be that our mood is in the negative and we aren’t feeling “well” enough to really go and sweat it out on some machines. Or it could be that we are in the early stages of a nasty cold. But, going to the gym even when we aren’t feeling on top of our game is one of the best reasons to go. Exercise induces endorphins which can help you chase off the blues and feel much better. Getting that blood flowing can also help invigorate you physically and mentally. Long term exercisers will also notice that when they work out at the gym, even when they aren’t feeling their best, they tend to recover from illness quicker and get sick less often. No one likes to be sick so isn’t that the best form of medicine your gym membership could buy?
One of the greatest things about exercise is the natural “high” that people get after a workout. It doesn’t matter what type of workout you do, building a sweat and increasing your endorphin levels often helps alleviate a bad mood or stress. And this doesn’t take very long at all to take place! Most individuals report that a workout after a stressful day at the office leaves them feeling better within a few minutes of completing that workout. The long-term effect is simply a happier person overall. Between the endorphins and a natural coping skill, it’s hard to be an unhappy person when you regularly exercise.
Think about prior to working out and how much energy you have had. Do you feel like you have more energy now? That’s because working out creates more energy for you to utilize throughout your day. People often report that they sleep better when they work out. They don’t feel tired when they get up in the morning to start their day. And although many people work themselves out to the point of heavy sweating and breathing hard, the oxygen getting to their muscles is what keeps them from feeling exhausted. And it gets better over time, so why lose all that progress?
It’s important to not give up on that resolution to get healthier and fitter in 2017. You had a reason to set that resolution in the first place and you should revisit why it is you wanted to feel healthier. Are you lugging around extra weight that slows you down? Do you feel tired all the time? Do you want to be able to pick out any bathing suit next summer without stress? Whatever the reason, think about it. Then think about all the good you have done for your system so far. Don’t give up, get back into the game and crush it. Your body will be grateful you did!
