When you decide to change your lifestyle and become far healthier, it is best never to rush. It is best never to rush because it gives you a far healthier chance of maintaining the change, and because it is actually healthier to do. To see just how and why these are the cases, make sure to read on.
It helps you maintain the change
It is no good deciding to change your lifestyle and be far healthier if you do not maintain the change. It is no good starting your healthier endeavor if you are going to fall at the first hurdle. And, in order to successfully circumvent this first hurdle, you must ease yourself into your big change.
What this means specifically is gradually cutting down on everything holding you back from being as healthy as can be rather than trying to quit them all at once or quit them cold turkey. For instance, when it comes to quitting smoking you should cut down on your cigarette consumption one by one, daily; this means smoking one less cigarette with each day that passes until you find yourself smoking barely anything a day and then subsequently able to quit altogether. Or, this could mean switching from smoking traditional cigarettes to using a vape pen to still get your smoking fix, only doing so in a far healthier fashion. And, similarly, if you want to quit drinking you should start going to the pub less frequently by refraining from going there less than you usually do as the weeks go by, drinking less as you usually do as the weeks go by, until you find yourself in a position where cutting the habit from your life completely would not cause any shock to your system. Only when you do these things in these ways will you be able to successfully beat that all-important first hurdle.
It is healthy to do so
It might be a strange concept, but cutting down on bad habits gradually and with ease is healthier for you to do than it is to cut them out completely. The main reason for this is because it gives your body the chance to acclimatize to its new diet or its new way of life. Basically, it gives your body the chance to get used to the different things being demanded of it and gives it the chance to understand the different types of energies it now needs to produce to keep you going through your day, every day.
There you have it: when it comes to being healthier and changing your lifestyle to accommodate this healthiness, don’t rush. Don’t rush because it will you maintain your change. Don’t rush because it will give your body the chance to get used to its new way of life. And, don’t rush because, quite simply, life is a marathon and never a sprint.
So, go out there now and cut down your cigarette intake until you eventually find yourself smoking no more, and gradually cut down on your drinking habits until you find yourself swapping alcohol for water entirely.
