Feeling blue is never a good thing, but we all tend to feel this way from time to time. For some, it’s just a passing mood that comes and goes within the hour, but for others, it’s something that can last a couple of days. Remember, if this lasts longer than a couple of weeks for you, you could be suffering from depression or another mental health condition, and you should speak to a professional ASAP to see what’s going on. However, if you feel you’re just in a bit of a short-term funk and you want to snap out of it, here’s a few things you can do to help you:
Smile Even if You Don’t Feel Like It
The first thing you can do is smile. That’s right; even if you don’t feel like it. Smiling when you don’t feel like it can be a challenge, but it can actually trick the brain into believing you’re happy, which can lift your mood almost instantly! Try it just sitting to yourself, right now. You don’t have to smile at somebody else, just smile to yourself. You’ll be surprised at how much this can improve your mood!
Do Something For Somebody Else
A lot of people believe that they can make themselves happier by doing things for themselves, and while this is true in some cases, there’s something even more powerful you can do to make yourself feel better. Do something for somebody else! When we do things for other people, we feel part of something bigger and get a huge sense of well being and satisfaction.
Confide In Somebody You Trust
Talking to somebody can help you to get your problems into perspective. Even if you don’t know what the issue actually is, talking about the way you feel can help you to feel better. Somebody else might be able to give you an outside opinion on the way you feel, too. You know what they say – a problem shared is a problem halved.
Watch Something Funny
How about watching a program that makes you laugh, or a film that’s supposed to be a comedy? You have lots of options, perhaps something nostalgic like Friends or even The Simpsons!
Read A Motivational Book
There are a ton of motivational books out there, so you can take your pick depending on what it is you want to do. Books focused around the Law of Attraction can help you to take control of your life and realize that everything happens for a higher purpose. You could even purchase a motivational book on getting more important stuff done, or organizing your day better. Work on your self growth!
List Everything You Have To Be Grateful For
List everything you have to be grateful for. Do this for a few minutes in the morning and a few minutes in the evening, and you’ll quickly see that you don’t have much to feel blue about.
Exercise is a fast way to release feel good hormones into your body. Try going for a 20 minute jog and you should feel much perkier.
