You will love how easy this stuffed french toast is to cook in the home. Just mix your cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla together to create the “stuffed french toast middle” that is then dipped in the most delicious egg custard. This cream cheese french toast is ready to enjoy in minutes!

The even better news? It tastes just like the IHOP copy cat stuffed french toast that we all love!

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup cream cheese 
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (add more if you have a sweet tooth)
  •  1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 8 slices of thick bread ( like texas Toast)
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • unsalted butter (for frying)

How To Make Stuffed French Toast

  1. Put cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract in a large bowl. Beat together until you have a thinner consistency, forming a cream cheese spread.

  1. Spread cream cheese filling on one side of the slice of bread. Form a cream cheese sandwich by placing another piece of thick bread on top of the bread spread with cream cheese.

  1. In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, granulated sugar, and cinnamon together. Dip the sandwiches in the egg mixture, just like how you would do for a conventional French toast.

  1. Melt the butter in a frying pan. Cook sandwiches until golden brown on both sides. 
  2. Top with berries, honey or maple syrup.

Tips Tricks and FAQS

  • You want to create this to enjoy right away. Letting the french toast sit and preparing later will create a very soggy breakfast. 
  • Add berries in the filling! Want even more flavor? Mix in berries or berry syrup into your cream cheese mixture prior to frying in your pan.

Storage

This breakfast treat is best enjoyed right away. You can store it in the fridge in an airtight container for a day or two, but the bread will get soggy and the cream cheese mixture will start to become a bit watery.

I always recommend thicker bread. This helps the bread to soak up the egg mixture, but you can use any kind you have on hand. I prefer using a Brioche, a Baguette, or a sourdough that is thickly sliced.

  1. As delicious as this looks, I have a tip to take this over the top. When making stuffed french toast I like to toast the “inside” part of the bread. This gives it a little extra crunch and keeps it from getting soggy.
