There is no better comfort food than homemade buttermilk biscuits. Whenever we stop and get Popeye’s I always make sure I get extra biscuits. This good biscuit recipe is very easy to follow and let me tell you that you won’t want to have them any other way.
Ingredients for Popeye’s Biscuits
- Flour
- Eggs
- Baking Powder
- Cold Butter
- Buttermilk or homemade buttermilk
- Measuring Cup
- Rolling Pin
- Pastry Cutter
- Baking Sheet or cast iron skillet
Step by Step Directions for Copycat Popeye’s Biscuits
- Whisk together the flour and baking powder in a large bowl.
- Add the cubed butter and use a pastry blender or your finger tips to cut the butter into the flour until the pieces are about the size of peas.
- Stir in the 2 beaten eggs and 1 ½ cups of buttermilk using a wooden spoon.
- The dough will be very sticky at this time.
- Cover and refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 400℉ and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Using floured hands, remove the dough from the bowl and transfer to a floured work surface and knead until a soft dough forms, dusting flour as needed.
- Press the dough in a round until about ½ inches thick. (you can use a rolling pin)
- Using a biscuit cutter or rim of a glass about 2 inches in diameter cut about 24 biscuits.
- You may have to turn the dough and recut the left over dough.
- Transfer cut biscuits to the prepared baking sheet or cast iron skillet.
- Beat the remaining 1 egg and brush the tops onto the biscuits.
- Bake until golden brown, about 15-20 minutes.
Chef Tips and Tricks
Use Cold Butter for the best results.
If you don’t have a pastry cutter use your hands to make dough crumbly.
Use a wooden Spoon.
If you don’t have a biscuit Cutter use the rim of a drinking glass.
