Homemade Dog Treats

We love Easter time in our house for so many reasons. One of the main ones is because Peeps are available at pretty much every store you go to! These are my absolute favorite.

When I eat them my dogs are always right next to me begging for a bite. So this year I decided to get creative and make our own healthy homemade peeps dog treat for the dogs to enjoy right along with me. 

You will love how easy these are to make just mix, roll, and bake! You will find yourself making these all year long for your fur baby!

How to Make Peeps Dog Treat Recipe

1. Start by adding your oat flour, banana, 1 egg, and 1/3 cup of peanut butter to a large mixing bowl.
2. Mix until well combined. Keep adding an egg, and 1/3 cup of peanut butter, and mixing until mixture reaches the constancy of cookie dough.
3. Roll out flat with a rolling pin, about 2 cm thick.
4. Use your bunny cookie cutter and cut out bunnies until all your dough is used up.
5. Lay on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and greased.
6. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Let the dog biscuits cool.
7. Next add your cornstarch, water, honey, and pink food coloring to a mixing bowl.
8. Mix until well combined. (You can add more water if the mixture is too stiff. The mixture will be runny while stirring and stiff when left sitting.
9. Repeat with each color.
10. Add each color icing to a pastry bag.
11. Cut the end of the pastry bag off, and ice each cooled dog treat as shown.
12. Let icing harden.

Tips Tricks and FAQs

• If you want to create an easy recipe for homemade peanut butter dog treats you can omit the icing. 
• You can create these in any shape you would like. I love cutting mine like dog bones, but you can create any shape or size.
• Try using our homemade peanut butter recipe to create these treats. Your dog will love the flavor as much as you do! Great for training treats also.
• Be sure your peanut butter does not have Xylitol this is toxic to dogs. Another reason to use homemade peanut butter! 

Storage

After the icing hardens, you will want to store these in an airtight container at room temperature. They will last up to two weeks. 

Are these healthy for dogs to eat?

Yes! These are perfectly healthy and safe for dogs to eat. When you make these for the first time I always recommend just giving them one to try them out first to make sure there is no reaction or upset stomach just to be safe. 

Can you use regular flour?

You can, you just want to be careful because some dogs are allergic to things in regular flour such as gluten. You can try wheat flour or coconut flour if you would like.
