This time of the year you don’t know if it is going to be 30 or 70 degrees. I decided to fire up the oven and bake all day today. I had some great apples from North Star so I decided on a nice skillet apple crisp.

No. You are more than welcome to place this in a baking dish and cook in the oven that way. I love using my cast iron skillet but it is not a must.

Do You Need to Peel Apples for Apple Crisp
Peeling your apples and coring them is important. If you leave the skins on the apples it will offer a chewy texture to your crisp. I find peeling gives a much better texture.

You will want to store any leftover Crisp you have in an airtight container in the fridge. This will store around 3-5 days when stored properly.
Eat it chilled or opt to heat in the microwave for a quick reheat. If you warm it up in the oven, just cover with aluminum foil. This will prevent the Crisp from drying out as it reheats.
Can You Freeze Leftover Crisp
If you choose to freeze your leftover crisp know that the texture will change a bit when you go to thaw it. The top won’t be as crunchy it will have a softer texture. The apples will break down more as it thaws from being frozen as well.

- 4 cups of peeled and sliced apples
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 2 tbs apple pie spice
- For the topping:
- 1 stick of butter softened
- 1/2 cup of brown sugar
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- Directions: Preheat oven to 400.
- Place your apples in a bowl with sugar and apple pie spice coat apples with the mixture.
- Place apples in your iron skillet or baking pan.
- In a separate bowl stir together brown sugar flour and oats.
- Stir in butter and continue to stir until you get a lot of crumbles.
- Spread over the top of your apple mixture.
- Bake for 1 hour or until the top is golden brown and your apples are tender.
