Tips & Tricks

  • Choose the right cut of beef: The quality of the beef you use can make or break your meatloaf. Choose a fattier cut such as ground chuck or ground sirloin for the juiciest and most flavorful results.
  • Add breadcrumbs and eggs: To help bind the ingredients together, add breadcrumbs and eggs to your meatloaf mixture. This will ensure that your meatloaf holds its shape while cooking.
  • Use a smoker: The smoking process takes the meatloaf to another level of flavor. Choose wood chips such as hickory or mesquite to add a smoky flavor to your meatloaf.
  • Use a meat thermometer: To ensure that your meatloaf is cooked through, use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. The temperature should reach 160°F (71°C) for beef.
  • Let it rest: After you remove the meatloaf from the smoker, let it rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing it. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, making it tender and juicy.
  • Serve with your favorite sides: Smoked meatloaf pairs well with a variety of sides such as mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a fresh salad.
