  1. Thanks for this recipe. I didn’t want to turn my oven on and thought that it could be done in the Instant Pot, but I wasn’t sure of the time. I thought about doing a PIP, but I really don’t have a good pot for that yet.

  2. 7thank you so much. I bought boxed potatoes for my son’s team as a side dish. I will try this quick cook option tonight. ?

  3. Thanks for this. I have bags full of dehydrated sliced potatoes that I want to use up. So I am going to try making basic scalloped potatoes based on your instructions.

  4. Thanks for these instructions. It worked well and sure beat the 45 min. oven time. You would think the companies would include Instant Pot directions more often as popular as they are.

  5. Quick question… did you boil the water first, like the box directions say to do, or just use the amount they called for without boiling?

Thanks for posting! I do not want to heat up the house tonight by turning on my oven 😉

  6. Thank you for these instructions! I’ve made 3 times now and it’s always perfect. For me it’s even better than when I used to make in the oven which was always hit or miss. Broiling at the end is a must for me and getting a golden brown top.

  7. Hi Carla!
Quick question… if I make this in the Foodi, which options would I use to brown/crisp up instead of using the oven?
    Thanks for the help!!!

    1. @Virginia, I used the air crisp setting and just watch it closely but it turned out perfect. 15 mins for 2 boxes.

  8. Hello..I made the Au Gratin boxed potatoes tonight…it was very soupy after the QR…but…after sitting for about 20 mins..it thickened up and the potatoes were soft. Plus they were tasty!

    1. This single comment has been what I refer to on cook time so many times. Pressure cook for 20 mins with QR and a broil to brown if desired has worked for me over and over in my IP. Thank you!

  9. Thank you!!!

I’ve been looking for a recipe to know how long to cook them for. You saved me the hassle. 🙌🏾

  10. I added about 3 more minutes after the initial cook but it was still way too soupy. Still delicious but I like them “tighter”. I’m going to try about a 1/4 cup less liquid next time. I’ve mastered boxed rice – I’m gonna master this too!

  11. When using the Instant Pot you have to adjust the amount of water or you will end up with potato soup. The liquid on the package takes into account evaporation. The Instant Pot does not let water evaporate so you will have too much liquid.

    1. I make these often as directed and they turn out fine…measure liquids exactly and allow for plenty of time for them to rest and they will

    2. …comment continued…
and as they sit and cool a bit the potato slices will continue to soak up the cheese sauce and they won’t be soupy 🙂

  12. I made this exactly as directed but I made a double batch because I like to eat I ate it with a little bit of meatloaf and it turned out absolutely awesome thank you so much my instant pot is new to me so I’m still learning everything and I definitely appreciate you posting this thanks again… I baked mine under a broiler for about 5 minutes after it was done just until they got a little bit crispy because that’s the way I like them little bit of shredded cheese on top and some bacon bits and it was phenomenal thank you again so much!!

  13. OMG I haven’ run across 1 of youe recipes in ages. (My fault). So when I googled this I saw your name and took it as a give-in, to only look at your recipe.
