Do You Quick Release Beef Roast
No! I have seen this the other day where someone took all the time to cook their roast and quick released and it was so dry and tough I am sure they tossed it out.
A good rule of thumb is to never quick release meat in the Instant Pot. You want the meat to naturally release so it helps to tenderize and lock in juices. Shredded beef is no exception.
Can You Freeze Shredded Beef
Yes! A great way to prep for future meals is to allow the beef to cool then toss in freezer bag or container and toss into the freezer.
Shredded beef will store for up to three months or if you use a vacuum sealer system it will extend the shelf life greatly.
How Long Is Shredded Beef Good For In Fridge
Your shredded beef will last cooked in the fridge for 3 to 5 days. I always recommend using your best judgment in terms of if you feel it has gone bad.
Instant Pot Will Take Longer to Reach Pressure
Because you are cooking frozen meat you have to remember it will take longer to reach pressure. It is like you placed a huge ice cube into your pressure cooker so it will take longer for the liquid to heat up.
I see a lot where people think they did something wrong since it is taking a lot longer. Just have patience and trust. Depending on the size of meat it could take twice as long to reach pressure.
Can I Change Up Seasoning for Shredded Beef
Absolutely. Feel free to play around with liquids used and seasoning to create flavor profiles to fit your taste buds. You might find the wine is a better fit or aromatic spices.
This is a starter recipe that offers mild flavor so you can pair or serve how you like. So, by all means, have fun changing the flavor to what you prefer.

Hi Carla, I have never used an instant pot before (I know I know I’ve been living under a rock). I live at a high elevation just over 7,000 ft. Do I need to increase my cook time for a frozen beef roast?
For those doing half (ish) of the amount of beef, I did 1.5 pounds of frozen beef chunks (about 1 to 2 inch pieces) for 50 mins with a 10 mins release. And it was perfect. 🙂
Thanks for the recipe! I put it on top of mashed potatoes For one dish / quinoa for the other.
Hi Carla, What if I’m using fresh not frozen. How many minutes do I set it for using 3 or 7 pounds?
i plan to use this recipe to make a fajita dump meal calling for 2 pounds of shredded beef. does the 3 pounds of beef reduce down very much in this recipe?
